Today’s Specials collaborated with Kath’s Cakes to bring Pinup Popup to the good people of Brixton. A temporary cafe-cum-shop had on offer the (might I say winning) combination of Cake, Cream Tea and Design.

RCA Christmas Fete!

This year, Julia of Today’s Specials worked with the Student Union of the Royal College of Art, London to establish their first ever Christmas Fete! Current students and graduates from across all disciplines sold their work in the mews beside the Royal College’s Kensington campus.

For the LDF 2012, Today’s Specials collaborated with sustainable furniture specialists Chest of Drawers to set up a pop up shop in their flagship Islington store in Upper Street. Exhibitors included by Zombie Collective, Chouikh & Cox, Melody Rose, Amy Hughes, Richard Brendon, Holly Berry, Smith Matthias, Clea Jentsch, James Shaw, Charlie McBride, Jen Smith and books by Dezeen, Max Fraser,Barbara Chandler and Confessions of Design Geek.

Design Bazaar 2011

As an extension of the Today’s Specials brand, we organised, designed, coordinated and ran Design Bazaar, a Christmas pop up shop between 27th November – 6th December 2011. Taking place at the Central Gallery, 125 Portobello Road in the centre of London’s famous Notting Hill, we sold the work of around 40 upcoming and established British based designers working across many disciplines, including: graphics, fashion, jewellery, textiles, ceramics and homeware! Open until 9 pm each evening for late night shopping, we also ran DJ events and workshops courtesy of Elena Corchero from Lost Values and local cafe Lowry and Baker set up an antique-cafe in-house, serving coffee, lunch and mulled wine throughout the day. The shop was a real breath of fresh air for the Notting Hill area and was a huge success!

Other stands included… Grannie’s Inc, Lost Values, Students from RCA Design Products, Zombie Collective Graphics, Bricolage, Emma Ware, Georgallis & Jones, Helen Noakes, I Am Acrylic, Myia Bonner and Wolf & Moon.

London Design Festival 2011

For 10 days during the London Design Festival 2011, we set up shop outside The Gold pub on Portobello Road! With new china sets by Richard Brendon and a new book, ‘Interviews’ by Confessions of a Design Geek, we also ran a market stall DJ set as well as selling work by all of our usual suspects!

In May 2011, we took to the street markets of London to sell the work of upcoming, British designers. Starting in Greenwich Market, we appeared weekly at Netil Market (Haggerston), Portobello Road and Brick Lane! Each week, the stock sold changed – here are some of the designers whose work was included in our stall: Jack Neville, Smith Matthias, Rosemary Anrude, Kat Kon, Hyung Ok Park, No Milliner, James Shaw, Charlie McBride, Richard Brendon and Julia Georgallis.
